Childrens Book Art

Here's a collection of all my childrens book related art. Pieces that I feel are in a style that best suits childrens books, whether for young children, teens and maybe adults too 🙂

Perth Beach Art Series

Theres no better place to be in summer then at the beach, and I have to say Perth has the best beaches in Australia. Sadly though, last summer (2021) I was unable to get to the beach as often as I would have liked.

So born out of frustration and a yearning to be at the beach, I illustrated these 12 drawings of what I imagined would be happening at the beach while I stayed indoors.

If you’re interested in seeing how I went from blank page to finished piece, check out my instagram, where I posted sped up videos of each piece.

Pitch For Kids Book Series

In 2019 there was an opportunity to become an illustrator for Scholastic publishing, so I was pretty keen for it as I had been working on a childrens book concept since the summer of 2018 (still in progress).

Anyways, as part of the application for the job, I created a completely new childrens book concept, as a way for me to demonstrate my artistic capabilities at the time.

The Idea I came up with was only supposed to be used for the application, but as I was working on the illustrations, more stories within the world of this concept just kept coming to me, and in no time at all I fell in love with it and wanted to turn it into a much larger project, ideally, a childrens book series.

Unfortunately, as of 2021, the artwork you see below is as far as that concept ever got. 2 mock up book covers, 2 pages of sequential art and 4 black and white half page illustrations.

I would like to return to this story concpet one day, but in the meantime, these illustrations will have to do.

Kid and Dog

I had just finished a small series of environment sketches and wanted to create some work that had a bit more of a narrative to it.

I don’t know why but drawing a kid getting up to no good with his giant pet dog seemed like a good way to do that…and as is often the case when i’m doing art, my mind got lost in a world where these 2 have a very real story i’d like to tell one day.

Until that time comes, enjoy the artwork 🙂

Street Ballers

I had alot of obsessions as a teen, and two of the biggest were Street Fighter and Basketball.

Saturday mornings i’d play ball at Joondalup courts with the Phoenix Flyers, followed by an arvo train ride into town to spend whatever spare change i had, to go play Street Fighter at the Forrest Chase Timezone, or at the arcade where the real competition was, downstairs at Split Second on Barrack st. Ahh good times.

So one day as a grown man, I thought it would be cool to combine these 2 old favourite past times of mine, into some cool looking artwork. Enjoy.

Basketball Animals

What can I say, I like basketball, I live in Australia, putting the 2 together just made sense to me. Enjoy
